One local station gets it…and they get my vote as well. This station has quickly turned to my station of choice because of two articles that they have posted regarding flowers for Valentine’s Day.

One article entitled Giving Flowers This Valentine’s Day highlights all of the positive effects of flowers!

“Flowers and Valentine’s Day are a cherished tradition, whether you’re sending a dozen roses, an elaborate flower arrangement, or hand-delivering a bouquet of daisies. And, as if you needed additional reasons to send flowers this Valentine’s Day, new research shows that the mere presence of flowers can change people’s moods for the better.”

Smart Money’s Senior Editor Slams Florists!

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and with that comes the onslaught of negative ads against florists.  Recently on the Early Show on CBS that negativity was released in full force.

Julie Chen interviewed Smart Money’s senior editor, Leigh Gallagher, about the supposed 10 things that a florist won’t tell you.  It highlighted such untrue things such as “your flowers will be half dead by the time they arrive” and “delivery times might be very late”.

In the original Smart Money article you were directed to order from a local florist for the safest bet.  The on-air version of this same article didn’t point to a real florist at all but, to order from ProFlowers instead.  My guess is the millions of dollars that ProFlowers spends in advertising with CBS and it’s affiliates had something to do with this shameless plug.

In reality your flowers from a REAL LOCAL FLORIST will never arrive half dead or insanely late if you order from a reputable company, that is.  There are hundreds, if not more, online third party call centers that will take your order and do all of the things that Ms. Gallagher suggests.  The difference is, they aren’t REAL FLORISTS like she claims.

Before you order your Valentine’s Day flowers this year, do some research on your own.  Know who has the best quality and value and don’t get stuck having to apologize for your gift.
