The Verdict is In! Real Florists Win Out Over Drop Shippers! http://felicityflowers.com/blog/2008/05/08/the-verdict-is-in-real-florists-win-out-over-drop-shippers/ http://felicityflowers.com/blog/2008/05/08/the-verdict-is-in-real-florists-win-out-over-drop-shippers/#comments Thu, 08 May 2008 14:56:40 +0000 felicityflowers All Things Felicity, Ohio http://felicityflowers.com/blog/2008/05/08/the-verdict-is-in-real-florists-win-out-over-drop-shippers/ After watching many, many comparison shopping clips on tv and the internet on where to buy flowers for Mom, I was always perplexed that they never included flowers from a local florist. You would always see flowers from the big drop ship companies but, never a hand delivered gem from a Real Florist. Not until this Mother’s Day, that is!

This video shows 5 spring bouquets purchased for around $50.00. One bouquet was purchased from ProFlowers, FTD.com, 1800Flowers.com, Organicbouquet.com and Greenworks, a Real Local florist. Not surprisingly, the local florist Greenworks, smashed the competition!

Since we are on the topic of drop ship bouquets…

Make sure you don’t leave mom with a wilted bouquet. Some drop ship companies give the shipping companies explicit orders just to leave the bouquet on the porch/at the door if someone isn’t home. 80 degrees plus, flowers in a box with no water. You can guess what the results would be and, up until recently, you could see the results until Proflowers issued a cease and desist order against a local florist.

The video illustrated the opening of a box of roses left on the front porch of two Philadelphia florists. The roses were frozen solid and even made a loud “thunk” when knocked on the table.

And in the, I couldn’t have said it better myself file, we find this beauty. Score One for the Little Guy!

Just remember to call your local florist when sending flowers to Mom this year. Aside from the hassle of having to fight to get your money back if you should need a replacement you’ll also have to worry about fried flowers arriving at her door. Skip the drama and order some beautiful, hand delivered, flowers for your momma!

I love keeping you all posted and I hate that I haven’t been doing that.  But, here’s what has been going on.

1.  I was elected as the new Village Clerk/Treasurer for the Village of Felicity, Ohio.  My term began on April 1st and I attended classes in March as well.  I’ve been working at the Village office just about every single hour that I haven’t been at the flower shop and I’ve adjusted the shop hours until I get the hang of the clerk position.
2.  Our new hours.  We are now open from 10 am - 5pm except on Wednesday we are open from 10am - 1pm.  Saturday we are open from 10 am - 3 pm and we’re closed on Sundays.  We are going to keep this schedule into the summer and we will return to our 9am opening time in the fall of 2008.

However, don’t fear.  We will still be making deliveries for funerals early in the morning so our new hours will not effect our delivery schedule.

3.  Deliveries.  We are reducing the number of deliveries that we make each day to combat rising gas prices and we are trying our hardest not to have to raise delivery prices.  Our delivery schedule is as follows.

10:00 am- 1st round of deliveries made for orders placed in advance.

1:00- Deliveries placed before noon, includes all orders to be delivered to the local school districts.

4:00- Final delivery of the day.  Orders placed after 3:30 will be delivered the following day.  However, please inquire about our special messenger service available for an extra charge.

We feel by raising the number of deliveries made with each trip we will be able to keep from raising our delivery prices, for now.

All of this information is, of course, subject to change and as gas prices rise we will do everything in our power to keep from raising prices.

Also, our website is getting ready for a major overhaul.  Stick with us as we transition into a new skin.  Online shopping is on the horizon and we can’t wait to unveil our new site you you!

We are so glad to be your florist in Felicity, Ohio.  We hope that you know you mean the world to us.

Please call me if you have any questions about our new hours.

Thanks!!

Heather

Both 1-800-Flowers.com and Teleflora have entered retail and wholesale businesses FTD has long dominated. To make matters worse, the $19 billion industry is slowing along with the economy.
